Let me just say it straight — lust has been one of my biggest battles as a man. I don’t care how fit you are, how disciplined, how many years you’ve been walking with God… this thing finds you. And it usually finds you when you least expect it, when you’re tired, or when your guard is down.
This morning I was doing my Bible study and I just felt, “Gert, you better share this one.” Because I know there are many guys out there fighting the same fight but doing it in silence.
So here goes.
NO MAN CAN FIGHT LUST BY HIMSELF
We love to think we can “discipline” our way out of temptation.
Nonsense. You can’t out-flex lust. You can’t out-willpower it.
God made us sexual beings — that desire is built into our wiring. The problem came when we twisted it. When we step outside God’s plan, that same desire that was supposed to bring life starts dragging us down.
And then you read Jesus’ words… Yoh.
He says even if you look at a woman with lust, you’ve already committed the sin in your heart.
That hit me hard.
But I also had to think deeper. I’m a married man. I will openly say to my wife:
- “Wow, she’s got beautiful breasts,”
- or “She looks sexy.”
And my wife will agree or tell me I’m blind — whatever. That’s just appreciating the beauty God created.
That is not lust.
Lust is when you go quiet…
when the imagination starts…
when you mentally start undressing her…
when you’re building a little fantasy that only lives inside your head.
That is where the danger is.
And every man knows exactly what I’m talking about.
AND THEN THERE ARE THE MOMENTS YOU KNOW YOU’RE GOING TO LOSE
This is the part no one likes to admit.
Sometimes you suddenly find yourself in a situation where you know — and I mean KNOW — that if you stay there, you’re going to fall.
Every man has that point.
Strong guys. Disciplined guys. Church-going guys. All of us.
And this is where the Bible gives us the best example ever: Joseph.
(Genesis 39:10–12)
What did Joseph do?
Did he quote Scripture?
Speak in tongues?
Start praying loudly?
Reason with himself?
Nope. He did the smartest thing a man can do in that moment:
HE RAN FOR HIS LIFE.
He literally bolted out the room.
He didn’t negotiate.
He didn’t “be strong.”
He didn’t stay to prove anything.
He knew his limits.
He respected God enough to get out.
And boet, if you ever see me running — and I NEVER run — then just know… there is a very good reason you must move out my way!
RUNNING IS NOT WEAKNESS — IT’S WISDOM
Sometimes the strongest thing a man can do is turn around and get the hell out of the situation.
Running doesn’t make you weak.
Running doesn’t make you unmanly.
Running means you understand one truth:
Some battles are not meant to be fought.
They’re meant to be avoided.
It protects:
- your heart,
- your marriage,
- your mind,
- your walk with God,
- and your dignity.
And let’s be honest — temptation doesn’t knock politely. It barges in. And if you stay standing there trying to be “tough,” you WILL lose.
So run.
Just run.
BROTHER, YOU’RE NOT THE ONLY ONE
I’ve coached men for decades. I’ve seen the strongest guys cry over this struggle. And I’ve seen guys drown in shame because they think they’re the only ones.
You are not alone.
You are not weak.
You are not broken.
You’re a man living in a world that throws sexual temptation at you from every angle — but you also have a God who gives you a way out.
Sometimes that “way out” is literally the door behind you.
If you want someone to walk this journey with you — body, mind, and spirit — I’m here.
My coaching isn’t just reps and diets.
It’s rebuilding men from the inside out.

And when the moment comes…
RUN.
Wish you all lekker training! (Today is back and triceps for me!)

Spot on with this one Gert , i been living alone now for couple of years , my girlfriend is 100km from me , plus we are not married and we try do liv a Godly , Biblical principle lifestyle anyway . I gym ( with a gym full off sexy and beautyfull girls ) , i more or less eat right and everything in-between to stay healthy and fit , now with that comes a elevated Testosterone level , so what do i do to get rid off that sexual , lustful urge ?? watch Porn and masturbate , that’s been my struggle and thorn in the flesh for many years !! U cant talk to someone because of the shame and guilt and just mentioning it to someone there first thought is what a PERVERT . so yes the struggle is real , i been praying , fasting , pleading with God to take this cup away from me , still waiting for my miracle , but in Faith i know it will come .

Deon…you are not nearly alone in this. We as followers of Christ talk waaaay too little about this struggle between us men. I am starting a prayer list for my brothers. You are on it! We need to prayer for each other for strength to fight this and win the good fight. Gert
