A unexpected SUPER training “stimulant”

For the last week I’ve been doing something new.

I’ve read about this new “surprise” fitness study which discuss the benefits of taking a paracetamol tablet before intense workout/aerobic.
This allows the athlete to train longer, since the effect of paracetamol is to keep the body temperature lower for longer thus allowing the athlete a much more effective session.

So I decided to test this theory….I got nothing to loose because it is a very safe painkiller and at my age…well, there are MANY pains and aches to contend with during training.

I started taking my one tablet 40 minutes before training for the past week
and I believe it elevated my training to a new level. I now train with
significant higher intensity for longer and also feel less pain
throughout the training…next day muscle soreness is also significantly
less than normal.

My max weight has also drastically increased on all excercises (between 10% to 20%)…but I believe it to be an outflow of the above positive factors.

Regarding the safety of it…well paracetamol is just about the safest of all painkiller tablets and is very easy on both kidneys and liver. I think the importance is not to take more than one tablet and to take it only on training days.

Try it and let me know if u agree with me.

Since I’ve started training (for the past 8 years) I believe it to be the single thing that made the most difference for me in my training…but maybe it is just me?

Anyway…happy training!

  1. Hi Gert! Even being a very safe pain killer it is still a drug. I am a little bit concerned if the human body accustom and when we really need for a flu or something like that, the drug will not work anymore.
Anyway I am not against a trial for a determined period.
I agree with you that in our age the painkillers make a huge difference.
I am 45, training 6 days a week but to far for having a physical conditioning like yours!
    Great pics!

    1. Sergio – yeah u are right it IS still a drug and caution must be used.
I think I will only use it during my 3 months building phase and not more than 4 times a week.
For me…eish man, it made a HUGE difference…being 49 and lifting so heavy is not easy on this body and I have to content with a lot of aches and pains…but such is life…nothing good comes without pain. (Anycase if I did not train I am sure I would have moer aches and pains!)
      I only train 4 times a week. See u train 6 (my body can’t handle that)…
Thanx for the comment on my pics.
WIsh u MUCH success my friend.
      Gert

  2. Gert, thanks for this and for the pictures you include. You really do look magnificent……these pictures are very worthy of being saved ! Well I think I am going to try it for my cardio work because my knees are giving me a problem. For your training I do believe that you put a lot of mental energy and discipline into it into it and that allows you to wring the absolute max out of the training……this is what this stimulant probably allows you to kick up a few notches. Again thanks for the information and the incredible pictures of your magnificent body…… Have a great week ! John

    1. John – thanx for the comment. It really made a huge difference for me. I am actually eager to hear other peoples experience with this strategy as well to see how it compared with my experience. I changed nothing except adding the paracetamol to before training. The intensity of my training has increase anything from 10% to 20%… Hope it works for you as well John. Keep trying my friend…never give up! It is worth it. Wish you a GREAT day. Gert
